What is your favorite animal?
It’s snowing in Texas with temperatures in the teens. What a lovely day to write about wolves.

“What sweet music they make.”
Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

A wolf pack is a family of wolves.

Packs are led by an alpha male and an alpha female who mate for life.

All pack members submit to their alphas who are for the most part, their parents.

Only the alpha female gives birth. She digs an amazing den and lines it with extra fur that she’s grown on her belly.

The whole pack supports the new mother bringing food to her den in the early days…

and caring for the cubs as they emerge.

When weaning the pups, the mother whimpers to gather them. They cover her mouth in kisses and she regurgitates her latest meal.

Wolves howl to declare their territory and to call their pack together.
I learned all of this because of the wolf dog who loved me. Let me find a picture…

Having been raised by Abandonment and Abuse and divorced from Madness, this wolf dog was my first experience with unconditional love.
All she wanted to do was be with me.
Then, she got out and got hit by a car and she was gone just like that POOF!
I’ll spare you the depths of that trauma.
In her honor, I began to use the last name of Wolf with Cynthia instead of Cyndi. Cynthia Wolf.
In my way, I shared my stories to cast wolves in a better light and fancied raising my children with them someday.
And I still have this Tony Alamo jacket I bought in 1989. Lee Greenwood had/has one just like it. They were very well made.
